Wellness Beyond Medicine

As an emergency medicine physician, Dr Jade Kua has spent years treating patients in crisis, addressing immediate physical needs when lives hang in the balance. And even as she thrives in this work, she has always been aware that acute care – though vital – was only one part of their story.

“When you're saving life and limb, you don't have time to explore someone’s full life,” she reflects. “The stress, the decisions, the life circumstances that form their humanity.” This insight led her to expand her practice beyond the emergency room.

At Jade Life and Wellness Coaching in Camden Medical, Dr Jade and her core team of 10 work in other areas of wellness, helping people build self-awareness, resilience and better life choices. “It's about moving beyond just adding days to lives,” she explains, “and towards improving quality and meaning to add life to days.”

Dr Jade sees her work in emergency medicine and wellness coaching as two ends of the same mission: protecting and enhancing life. Where emergency medicine deals with people at their most vulnerable, coaching meets people at any point in their journey and helps them navigate challenges, transitions and growth across all life domains.

Beyond Traditional Medicine

Dr Jade brings a unique perspective to wellness coaching, one informed by her medical training and her Master's degree in trauma science. Her specialty has shown her firsthand the human cost of neglected wellness – and means she is attuned to when coaching is appropriate or when someone needs clinical intervention.

“Coaching is non-diagnostic and forward-focused,” she clarifies. “We don't diagnose medical illnesses or prescribe medication. But my medical background helps me recognise when we need to refer.”

This is where the integrated ecosystem at Jade Life and Wellness becomes invaluable. The clinic has built a network that includes psychiatrists, gynaecologists and dietitians for seamless referrals when an issue crosses into clinical territory. “It's a lesson I learned from working in hospitals,” Dr Jade says. “This integrated approach gives our coaches confidence and gives clients comprehensive support.”

Building Resilience in Every Form

Coaching, she explains, can address what conventional care may struggle to solve: stress management, lifestyle changes, relationship dynamics and self-limiting beliefs. The clinic handles everything from career or relationship transitions and succession planning to strategies for supporting longevity and gut health.

Dr Jade is also passionate about trauma-informed coaching and emergency readiness. Having developed and led Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training programmes for 14 years, she aims to bringing some of that philosophy to psychological preparedness.

“Just like CPR, trauma-informed coaching isn't just for people who've experienced trauma,” she explains. “It's for anyone who wants to be ready to support others in crisis.”

This builds “resilience literacy”, the ability to recognise signs of distress in people, and to step up, she says. "Think about how many of us know CPR because we want to be ready if something happens to a loved one or neighbour. Psychological readiness is just as important.”

Accessible Pathways to Growth

In fact, Dr Jade points out that coaching is for anyone looking to grow in specific areas of their life. Her youngest coaching client is 10 years old, navigating school stress. Her oldest is in their 80s, adjusting to retirement and redefining their purpose.

To this end, she has made coaching accessible through a coaching academy, which offers courses (many SkillsFuture eligible) ranging from 24-hour introductions to full international accreditation.

“Coaching isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating space to explore the questions that matter most to you and building the self-awareness and skills to move forward with clarity and confidence.”
