Design in Practice

In many aspects of medicine, art plays as much a large a role as science. We speak to some doctors on how they’ve integrated art and design into their clinics – and how this has made for a much better patient experience.

Clean, white, uncluttered – and plenty of art

Dr Woffles Wu, Woffles Wu - Aesthetic Surgery & Laser Centre

Dr Woffles Wu’s clinic speaks of his love for art and sense of style. Clean lines, interesting textures and a white palette offer the perfect backdrop for his art collection. From the ribbed wall to the inviting white leather sofa, his clinic is the embodiment of his own personal aesthetic: clutter-free, fresh, warm and inviting. Art – which has always been a huge passion – also makes its distinct impression to the space, enlivening it with colour and texture.

Dr Yvonne Goh, Yvonne Goh Aesthetics

Elegantly modern with a touch of the classical, the clinic has a visually soothing aesthetic that evokes serenity, comfort and restfulness. Thanks to tall windows, the space is drenched in ample natural light and looks out upon attractive surrounding views and lush greenery.

In the company of hope and life

Dr Lai Fon-Min, A Company for Women

Life, hope and vitality play an integral role in Dr Lai’s obstetrics and gynaecological practice. It is natural then that his clinic logo reflects the life-affirming nature of his work. Opting for a contemporary look, the orange ‘O’ in the logo is both a universal representation of the infinite nature of energy as well as the circle of life in obstetrics. Vivid orange, bright sculptures and boldly-coloured paintings stand out against the subtle hues of the clinic, which includes a colour-blocked feature wall for magazines and amenities.

Designed for wellness

Dr Yan, WL&H Medical

Standing for Wellness, Lifestyle and Health, WL&H Medical is all about health, keeping well and being empowered with precise and personalised care. This ethos is reflected in the non-clinical, contemporary look and feel of the space. Comfortable couches, tub chairs, roomy consulting spaces and light-bathed clinics give a sense of a well-appointed home or welcoming private lounge, while natural light bathes the space – its offices, conference and waiting room – in sunshine. A distinctive slate feature wall welcome all those who enter – a feature that symbolises the idea of knowledge as the bedrock of wellness and the foundation of good, informed care.
